Motoring USA was established in 2008. In addition to his lifelong passion for producing events, John Detrick had a vision to publish an automotive magazine not just for deeply-engage enthusiasts, but for all people who drove or appreciated automobiles. The magazine was named Motoring USA. A faltering economy and the rapid transition from print to web-based publishing forced those plans to change. John returned the core business expertise built around events.
For more than four decades, John has built and led some of the country’s most celebrated live events — from producing more than 100 concerts with legends like Tony Bennett, B.B. King, and Wynton Marsalis, to serving as Chief Executive Officer of Carlisle Events, the world’s largest presenter of collector car, truck, and motorcycle events, to representing the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for the City of Sturgis, South Dakota and later Sturgis Events, John has a deep well of event experience and knowledge.
One of his great joys has been the founding of the acclaimed Artisan Guitar Show — now in its tenth year. This show has proven to be a great tool for the community. Each year the guitar community comes together to raise $10,000.00 for Penn State Children’s Hospital Four Diamonds charity. The annual Bucky Award Pizzarelli Award honors great individuals like John Sebastian and Dean Parks who have made lasting contributions to the music world. The student outreach program after many years of hosting educational breakfasts for young guitarists, began sending a young guitar player to Berklee College of Music for a summer guitar study session in 2026.
Today, in retirement, John is focused on bringing his expertise in planning, strategy, and large-scale execution to new and exciting projects.
